Shamrock Rovers were crowned SSE Airtricity League champions for the third consecutive season after Derry City were held to a draw by Sligo Rovers on Monday night.

A nil draw means Derry can’t catch Rovers. This is the 20th success in the “Hoops” championship.

It means Rovers are crowned champions with two games to spare.

Derry take on Rovers in Tallaght on Sunday, but there won’t be as much riding on the fixture after the league decided.

Meanwhile, Finn Harps could be relegated to the First Division on Friday night.

A 1-1 draw away to Shelbourne on Thursday night moved The Students three points clear of Arps at the bottom of the table.

The relegation rivals meet on Friday when UCD drop Harps.
