The technology company, which is based in Singapore and has a major office in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, said the investment would lead to the opening of new beauty research labs.

Dyson said the “vast majority” of the £500m investment would be spent in the UK. But it was not said what the cosmetic products would be.

He created the bagless vacuum cleaner, which is now synonymous with the business, but branched out into beauty products such as the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer and even designed an electric car.

But in 2019 he was accused of “treason” after moving Dyson’s headquarters from Wiltshire to Singapore.

The 75-year-old inventor is currently suing Channel 4 for defamation over a program that alleges abuse and exploitation of workers at a factory that used to supply goods to his firm.
