She continued: “As sad as this day is, it’s impossible to mourn them without celebrating the incredible lives they lived. We were three sisters who not only took turns paving each other’s paths and marking tracks, we were each other’s secret shares. Co-keepers of each other’s memories.”

Lucy, a well-known Broadway composer, was nominated for a Tony Award for her work on the musical The Secret Garden. She also performed with Carly in a folk band.

Sister Carly also won a Grammy for Best Children’s Recording for In Harmony. Two more years later, she won a Grammy in the same category.

After she retired from performing in the early 1990s, she took on the role of arts correspondent for the PBS show MacNeil-Lehrer News Hour.

She won an Emmy for her reporting on bipolar disorder and creativity.

The three sisters also had a brother named Peter, who died in 2018 aged 71.
