Actor Josephine Melville died backstage at the theater after appearing in the play.

A performer whose television credits include EastEnders and Prime Suspect 2, died on Thursday night at Nottingham Playhouse after starring in a production of Nine Night.

In a statement, – said the theater: “It is with deep sadness that we announce that the actor Josephine Melville passed away last night backstage at Nottingham Playhouse after a production of Nine Nights in which she was starring. Josephine’s family have been informed and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with them.

“Josephine received immediate treatment from Nottingham Playhouse medics and a qualified medical member of the Nine Night audience. The subsequent very quick arrival of paramedics meant she was treated quickly and expertly, but sadly she died at the scene.’

“We offer our full support to her family, our stage and production crew and all staff at this terrible time.”

Josephine appeared in eight episodes of EastEnders in 1986 as Tessa Parker, Calvin Carpenter’s girlfriend. She then appeared in an episode in 2005 as another character.

She has made guest appearances on shows such as Casualty, Hold The Sunset and The Bill, and starred in Ella Henderson’s video for her 2019 hit Brave.
