Sebastian Vettel insists he is not second-guessing his decision to retire from Formula 1.

At Suzuka, the four-time world champion admitted he might consider a one-off return in the future, but only at the venue of the Japanese Grand Prix, where he was voted ‘Rider of the Day’ by fans.

He repeated that feat in Austin, p Kevin Magnussen lost the battle for eighth place to the 35-year-old after a thrilling battle that culminated in Vettel being overtaken on the final lap.

“I have to say it was quite a ride from him,” said the Danish driver.

“Then you really understand why he’s a four-time world champion.”

Some even wonder if Vettel may now be reconsidering his decision to retire, especially with Audi openly keen to sign the German driver for the future.

“He’s having a lot of fun sitting in the car at the moment,” Ralf Schumacher said Sky Deutschland.

“If he had to make a decision about his future today, I’d say he wouldn’t make the same decision again. If things had gone like this from the start of the season, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have stopped.”

Asked if he regretted his decision, Vettel emphatically told Bild newspaper: “No.

“Of course, I will miss such moments – it’s no secret for anyone. But I thought long and hard about the decision, as well as about such moments and adrenaline, which I will miss.

“Part of me will miss it,” he added, “but another part of me is excited to see what happens.”
