LONDON, 24th October 2022 (WAM) — Rishi Sunak is set to become the UK’s Prime Minister after winning the Conservative Party leadership race, Reuters has reported.

Sunak, 42, will become the country’s youngest leader in modern times – and the third in less than two months – when he takes over during one of the most turbulent eras in British political history.

Sunak is expected to take office on Tuesday after being officially appointed by the king. He replaces Liz Truss, who lasted just 44 days before announcing she would step down.

He told his lawmakers in parliament on Monday that they faced an “existential crisis” and must “unite or die”. He said that the country faced a “profound economic challenge”.

“Now we need stability and unity, and I will make it my highest priority to unite our party and our country,” he said.
