Owen Farrell could soon return for the first England Test after undergoing the early stages of concussion protocols.

The inside back was unable to fly to England’s training camp in Jersey this week and has instead been working with Saracens’ medical staff.

He is serving a 12-day suspension but Saracens boss Mark McCall revealed he could still feature against Argentina next week.

“Owen has been at the club for the last two days to see the medical staff and get the treatments and procedures that he needs,” McCall said.

“Let’s wait and see. There’s still a chance he can play the first game, so fingers crossed. He is certainly in good shape. He’s had a really strong start to the season and I hope he’ll be fine.”

Farrell’s return would extend England’s lead, with captain Courtney Lawes also out with concussion. Lowes is due to see a specialist and the club’s coach, Sam Westie, could not give a timetable for his recovery on Tuesday.

“He’s gone through some elements and he needs to sort out others,” Vesti said. “We’ve improved the game and learned how important player welfare is. It’s important for Courtney and everyone else who finds themselves in this situation to follow due process.”

If Farrell is fit, it will be a boost for England manager Eddie Jones, with captain Courtney Lawes also absent

The Vesty revealed Lowes’ team-mate Tommy Freeman is no longer wearing safety boots and is nearing a comeback.

And fellow speedster Henry Arundel, who is rehabbing in Jersey, could also be back by the end of the autumn campaign.

“Henry is a bit of a bone problem that we’re hoping to sort out in maybe three weeks,” London Irish coach Declan Kidney said.

“He has an injury that seemed to rule him out for the whole of November. Doctors hope that it may be available for some of them.
