A man was arrested after barricading himself inside a home with a 7-year-old boy in Plymouth, Mass., late Saturday night, police said.

One person was injured at the scene, which resulted in an hours-long standoff, according to Plymouth police. The boy was rescued by the police, and the man was detained in the house.

First, the police were called to the scene on a report of a stabbing on Samaseti Street. The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital but is expected to survive, police said.

Herman Smith, 50, of Plymouth barricaded himself inside the residence and refused commands to free the boy, police said.

But officers were able to rescue the child through a second-story window, police said. Smith was then found hiding in a closet as SWAT teams swept the residence.

Smith is now charged with several felonies. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney available to speak about the allegations.
