Carey, 42, and Cannon met while working on the music video for her track Bye Bye.

The singer spoke about her upbringing in an interview Us Weeklywhere she revealed that she has taken a laid-back approach to motherhood.

“I’m going to have to quote Mean Girls and say, ‘I’m not your average mom.’ I’m a cool mom.” There are no rules in this house, she said.

“I don’t like being the bad guy, I must say. I really don’t, I hate it more than anything, she said.

Carey went on to say that she was aiming to achieve a certain position with her children, although she admitted that it would be a lofty goal.

“I want to be, like, ‘I’m not quite a mom, I’m a cool mom.’ But you’re never a cool mom, you just never are,” she said.
