Magda Shubansky admitted that “everyone thinks I’m having a heart attack while walking”

Magda Shubansky hopes to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle with her new ABC TV series, Magda’s Great National Health Check.

The 61-year-old actress and comedian said Tuesday that she is mindful of possible health issues after years of struggling with her weight.

“Everyone thinks I’m having a walking heart attack. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t following a wellness journey or diet,” she said Sydney Morning Herald.

The former Kat & Kim star said the solution to obesity is more complicated than the oft-repeated mantra of “eat less, move more” and her new show aims to explore the root causes of the problem.

“Obviously, the reasons for my overweight are complex. We must create food security and affordability for all people,” she said.

She said a recent health scare that left her hospitalized prompted her to think about the broader issue of health care.

“Everyone thinks I’m having a walking heart attack. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t on a wellness trip or on a diet,” she told The Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday

Magda is one of Australia’s best-known comedians, best known for her role as lovable loser Sharon Strzelecki in the ABC sitcom Kath & Kim.

Earlier this week, she opened up about her poor health, revealing that she has battled several illnesses throughout her life.

In an interview with TV Week magazine, the “Baby” star listed various health issues and said she wondered if there were others with similar problems.

“There are times in my life when I was completely ruined by the disease,” she said.

“Osteoarthritis, migraines, anxiety – I also suffer from sleep apnea – and it makes me wonder, ‘Am I the only one who feels this way?’ Do other people feel the same? Are they facing the same challenges?” she added.

Magda’s Great National Health Check premieres on ABC Tuesday, November 1 at 8:30 p.m.
