The man who killed two maternity nurses in a shooting outside the delivery rooms at Dallas Methodist Medical Center on Saturday morning was a former parolee with an ankle monitor at the time of the shooting.

Texas police rushed to the hospital on North Beckley Avenue shortly before noon after receiving calls about a shooting at the medical facility.

Police said WFAA that the suspect was shot by a Methodist police officer and taken into custody.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the two victims were hospital maternity nurses who were found by police near the hospital’s maternity ward.
One was pronounced dead immediately and the other died later.
“The Methodist Health System family is devastated by the loss of two of our beloved team members,” the hospital said in a statement.
“Our entire organization is experiencing this unimaginable tragedy.

Sources said the two victims were laborers at the hospital who were found by police near the hospital’s delivery area.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said he was grieving for the victims and said the city would stand “with them as we grieve and seek speedy justice.”
The Dallas Police Department’s Homicide Unit and Special Investigations Unit are on scene investigating the shooting and assisting hospital police.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia called the shooting a “disgusting failure of our criminal justice system.”

The incident happened less than an hour before the hospital was due to begin a tour of its new Linda and Mitch Hart Breast Center for breast cancer patients
A hospital spokesman confirmed the medical center was scheduled to give a tour of the new Linda and Mitch Hart Breast Center for breast cancer patients less than an hour before the shooting.
The shooting led to the cancellation of the event and the closing of the hospital.
The injured were on the fourth floor of the hospital.
