India and Pakistan met on Sunday 23 October in the first match between them ICC T20 World Cup 2022 campaign when the former defeated Babar Azam’s side thanks to Virat Kohli’s ‘special’ knock.

The Asian giants clashed on the biggest stage in the shortest format and the contest lived up to its hype by going right down to the wire. The drama, thrills, upsets and excitement that the India-Pakistan clash is famous for were all present in this encounter.

India were on the brink of defeat before the right-hander, arguably one of the world’s best pacers, made his entrance into the field and single-handedly took the game away from the opposition. Kohli got off to a slow start to his innings after losing consecutive wickets that India endured in less than five overs.

A crowd of over 90,000 at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), including the vast majority of Indian fans, were hoping for something spectacular from the former skipper and he delivered. He was replaced by Hardik Pandya who along with Kohli dictated the match almost till the end with an outstanding stand of 113 runs between them.

Virat Kohli played the winning shot

A video shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on its official Twitter account shows a full stadium chanting for Kohli and the Indian team. Fans can be heard chanting “Chak de India” and “Cohli, Kohli!” for a sensational shot played by the batting maestro himself.

Many cricket pundits considered Kohli’s knock to be forever. Virat himself said after the game that it was the best T20I knock of his career.

The player was also seen emotional after the match and thanked the fans who supported him during the difficult period he has endured for nearly two years.
