Police launched a homicide investigation after a 59-year-old woman was found dead in a home.
Officers responded to reports that a woman had been “seriously assaulted” at a house in Northbourne Close, Shoreham, just after 12.30pm today.
The woman received medical attention, but died at the scene.
Her next of kin were informed.
A A large tent and a green barrier could be seen outside the semi-detached house.
Forensic experts were also in the house.
Sussex Police said this was an isolated incident involving people known to each other and there is not believed to be a threat to the wider community.
A 64-year-old man was detained on suspicion of murder and taken to the police station.
People can expect a constant and visible police presence in the area while the investigation is underway.
At least four police cars and two ambulances were at the scene.
