Wine of the Week: Co-op Chilean Irresistible 30 Degree Pinot Noir 2021

This latest vintage Chilean 30-degree Pinot Noir co-op has just hit stores and will replace the previous 2020 version. And this is another great wine that has received the highest 5-star rating, stemming from the 5-star 2020 and 4-star 2019. It has grown by a pound, now it costs £ 8 per bottle, but this Pinot Noir in the Casablanca Valley is still worth the money and great value.

This time the taste is lighter and spicier, mostly cherry and mocha coffee, rather than intense raspberry, chocolate and sweet. But this is in line with the cooler weather conditions in Chile in 2021, when a report on Chilean grape harvest says a fresher year with slower ripening, leading to wines with higher acidity.

This is a big change from hot weather and drought in 2020 and 2019, when grapes were harvested early to avoid it overripeing after a lack of water forced it to ripen early. Very ripe grapes had high sugar levels and an intense fruity taste that was evident in the wines. The 2021 harvest was followed by cooler weather, and it’s also felt in the scent.

Enjoy this wine with Co-op now.

The flavors in 2021 this time will be lighter and sharper, mostly with cherries and mocha, rather than with the intense raspberry, chocolate and licorice roots of earlier years (2020 and 2019). But this is in line with the cooler weather conditions in Chile in 2021, when a report on Chilean grape harvest says a fresher year with slower ripening, leading to wines with higher acidity. The fruityness of the blackberries adds a fresh flavor, but there are also hints of toffee and dark chocolate. A pleasant wine that knocks down the stains of many French Pinot Noir from the Burgundy region.

A wonderful wine with many fruit flavors. A nice balance of grapefruit, tangerine, apple, apricot, pear and apple – a completely fruit salad. Later, freshly cut grass appears, making all the wine complex and delicious. Slicing above your usual Sauvignon Blanc with a direct gooseberry flavor.

Casillero del Diablo Reserva Pinot Grigio 2021
£ 6.99 Canterbury Wines, £ 7.49 Iceland, £ 7.50 Tesco, £ 8.25 Cooperative

Reliable and delicious Chilean Pinot Grigio with a light and creamy hue of pear and apple with a hint of orange. Not the cheapest out there, but it will give you constant taste pleasure from time to time. Try Co-op’s Casa Turano Pinot Grigio for £ 5 if you want a cheaper 5-star wine.
