Two children were killed and several others were injured after a gunman opened fire on a Texas primary school after a shootout with border guards.

The Uwalde Memorial Hospital has confirmed that two children were brought in dead on arrival and that they were treating several more after the shooting at Robb Primary School in Uwalde. KSAT.com reported.

An armed man allegedly opened fire at an elementary school after him exchanged fire with border guards and barricaded himself in the school, sending campus and all other area schools to closure.

Hours after police confirmed they had detained the suspect.

Police did not confirm any injuries or deaths, but the Uwalde Memorial said it was “currently caring for several students in the emergency room” and asked close relatives of the injured students to show up at the hospital canteen.

The University of San Antonio Medical Center confirmed that they received a child and an adult patient from the shooting, but were unable to confirm their current condition.
