Mickey Gillie, a country music performer with a number of hits from the 1970s and 80s, has died at the age of 86.

The mayor of Pasadena, TexasJeff Wagner announced that the singer died on Saturday in the “company of his loved ones.”

Gilly helped place a city near Houston on a map when he opened Gilley’s Club there the size of a football stadium, which helped inspire John Travolta’s 1980 hit “City Cowboy”.

Gili died in Branson, Missouri, where his Great Shanghai Mickey Gill Theater was located.

Although he was best known for his country music, the singer was a cousin of Jerry Lee Lewis ’royal rock and roll family.

In 1970, he opened Gilley’s Club in Pasadena, which had both a smaller club and a larger rodeo arena. The huge venue eventually became known as “the world’s largest honky tonk”.

The film, which became a hit with critics and critics, was favorably compared to Travolta’s earlier film “Saturday Night Fever,” although this time it focused on country music rather than disco.

The exact circumstances of the death of the Mississippi native have not been revealed.

Real talent: “Mickey was a real musical talent who entered the charts of 42 singles in the 40 best countries in the charts in two decades,” he wrote in his signature.

The announcement came after the cancellation of Gili’s recent tour on May 1 due to “health problems” and “energy levels” that prevented him from being “100 percent” in his performances.

Wagner said this through a post on Facebook, which showed photos of the star, writing: “Posadena has lost a true legend.” Mickey Gillie passed away today surrounded by loved ones. It was a great honor for me to know this man most of my life. ”

“Mickey was a true musical talent who entered the charts of 42 singles in the top 40 countries in two decades,” he continued.

Gili debuted in the charts with the album Is It Wrong For Loving You and entered the 39 best hits, 17 of which took first place.

He has received numerous awards and prizes, including six ACM awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was also inducted into the Texas Country Hall of Fame.

Mickey is survived by his wife Cindy Loeb Gillie and four children.
