Julia Roberts stunned the internet after she revealed her unique, rarely shared connection to Martin Luther Jr. and recalled how the activist and his wife, Coretta Scott King, footed the bill for her hospital birth.

Earlier this month, in honor of her 55th birthday on October 28, a video of the Beauty actress discussing her family’s close connection to the Kings resurfaced on social media, with dozens of users sharing the clip of Roberts talking about her unique birth story with Gayle King.

In an interview with King on A&E’s HISTORYTalks back in September, the 55-year-old movie star revealed that her mother and father, Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts, had a close relationship with the Kings before she was born.

So when her parents were crippled by the medical bills they faced after giving birth to Roberts, the Kings stepped in to help in return for the kindness the actress’ mother and father had shown their family years earlier.

“The King family paid my hospital bills. My parents couldn’t pay for sick leave, Julia Gale said.

“My parents had a theater school in Atlanta called the Actors and Writers Workshop,” she continued.

And one day Coretta Scott King called my mother and asked if her children could go to school because they were having a hard time finding a place that would accept her children. And my mom said, “Sure. Come on.” And so they just became friends and helped us get out of trouble.”

Gale noted that things were still very divided at the time, as racism was rampant in America during the 60s.

“The strangest thing about it was the fact that most of the people in the parking lot reacted very mildly,” he recalled.

“The car belched, then started burning, and most of the people were looking that way and then back at the stage.

“So the car was on fire. This was not the first parking for this parking lot. In fact, if the clansman hadn’t been an idiot and drunk, he might have gotten away without being identified.

“Instead, he decided to start shouting towards the stage. He then threw his beer bottle into the car to keep it burning.

“The cops who were watching the series just walked up to him, talked to him, handcuffed him and took him away with very little effort.

“Yolanda and I looked at each other. [Walter] approached the stage and said something to the crowd.

“I couldn’t hear what it was, but almost everyone was laughing and some were applauding. Then he turned to us and said, “What about the next line?”
