At least five people have died in a horrific mass shooting at a gay club in Colorado, US, police have confirmed.
A further 18 people were reportedly injured in the bloodshed and violence that took place at the Q Club in Colorado Springs on Saturday (November 19).
Club Q describes itself as an “adult-oriented gay and lesbian nightclub featuring themed nights such as karaoke, drag shows and DJs.”
Police declined to speculate on a possible motive, but said one person believed to be the shooter was taken into custody.
“We’re going to be here for many, many more hours,” said Colorado Springs Police Lt. Pamela Castro.
U a statement shared on social mediaThe Q Club said it was “devastated by the senseless attack on our community”.
“Our prayers and thoughts are with all the victims, their families and friends,” the statement said.
“We are grateful for the quick response of heroic customers who subdued the gunman and stopped this hate-motivated attack.”
According to unconfirmed reports, the shooter was picking off victims one by one with a sniper rifle.
Club Q bartender Michael Anderson told about it A mirror that he was “afraid he was going to die.”
“I was getting ready to shoot, but the shots stopped,” he said. “After a minute or two I wasn’t sure if it was over or not, so I got up and decided to run. I found a man lying on the floor with a bullet in his neck.’
