Thomas James Marriott, 37, is believed to have carried out all the offenses at the Bootham school against the teenage girl several years ago.

It is believed that all the crimes took place when he was in a position of trust with the girl.

Marriott, of Churchstoke, Powys, Wales, has pleaded not guilty.

He faces three counts of sexual acts with a girl when he was an adult acting in breach of trust and four counts of inciting or coercing a girl to engage in sexual acts when he was an adult acting in breach of trust.

His case was sent to York Crown Court for a trial by judge and jury and he was released on unconditional bail.

He is expected to appear before a judge on April 11 for a plea and pretrial hearing.

A spokesman for St. Peter’s School, a private day and boarding school, said Marriott left the school several years ago.

They added: “The protection of our pupils is of the utmost importance to us. All our staff receive extensive training and we work closely with statutory and advisory bodies to ensure our approaches are thorough and up-to-date.’
