Carlos Sainz looks set to pass the penalty grid at Ferrari’s home Italian Grand Prix this weekend.

Carlos Sainz looks like he should take the penalty net Ferrarihome of the Italian Grand Prix this weekend.

His teammate Charles Leclerc A similar fate recently befell Spa-Francorchamps, and now the same is expected for the Spaniard Sainz.

“Very soon we will have to replace the engine and punish the network,” he confirmed.

“It will be a lighter unit and that should help us because we are still overweight.”

Team boss Mattia Binottohowever, is not ready to confirm that this will happen in Monza.

“Sooner or later we have to take the penalty,” said the Italian. “We’re hoping we’ll only lose five to ten places and not start at the back.”

Binotta also praised the 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg for suggesting that Ferrari’s strategy and pit stop mistakes this year should prompt an urgent personnel change.

“Even Formula 2 teams or Formula 3 teams do a better job than Ferrari,” Rosberg said after Zandvoort.

Binotto replied: “We will not change people – that is my answer to Rosberg.

“We already have great people and it has been proven that stability is more important in the sport and that we are looking to improve day by day and race by race.”
