Tommy Little has expressed his deep regret after failing to complete the charity swim from Great Britain to Belgium.

The 27-year-old comedian set off on a swim at the weekend to raise money for a spinal cord charity, but was forced to stop halfway after French authorities threatened to intercept his team’s boat.

“I am shocked and embarrassed. I’ve been talking about this swim for about six months now,” he told The Project on Monday.

“A lot of people have donated money that goes to a great cause, but we’re not done. And if you don’t think that’s embarrassing… we even have world record t-shirts with our names on them, and where are we going to wear them?’ he added.

Tommy, who has been through months of grueling training and fundraising, admitted he was “still devastated” by the weekend’s turn of events.

The comedian explained that his swim team was not allowed to enter French waters, despite being given permission for the route they were taking, because local officials “decided it was getting too dangerous”.

“So they pulled a pin and told us we had to get out and if we didn’t they would intercept our boat,” he said, explaining that there would be dire consequences, including legal action and “huge fines”. when they refused.

He later admitted: “If I’m going to do it again, I’m going to do it quietly and not tell anyone. People have promised money and donated money and you just end up feeling like a fraud. But that was something that was out of my control.”

Co-host Carrie Bickmore assured Tommy that he had nothing to be ashamed of and that it was great that he was “putting his body on the line for an incredible cause”.
