Prince Harry’s new memoir Spare covers many of Prince’s most personal memories, including people who “often” speculate about his sexuality.
In the book, the prince reflects on the frequently asked question from members of the public about whether he is gay while waiting in line at a supermarket.
He says he was tempted to respond to speculation about his sexuality.
“More than once I have watched clients read about me, heard them discuss me,” he recalls.
“In 2015, I heard them often discussing whether I would ever get married. Was I happy. Whether or not I might be gay.
“I was always tempted to tap them on the shoulder…. ‘Hello,“, he shares.
He describes how he called out an elderly couple for having a heated discussion about his life choices with a cashier.
“I stepped forward, showed my face, cleared my throat: ‘I’m sorry.’ I don’t know what’s going on here, but I don’t think you should talk to her like that.’
Harry and wife Meghan visited the singer in France in 2019.
On the last night of their stay, disagreements erupted after it became known that the musician plans to publish his autobiography in a series. Daily Mail – a post in Harry and Meghan previously initiated legal proceedings.
Harry has previously established himself as an LGBTQ+ ally, and in 2008, when he was a tank commander, he survived homophobic incident while working with gay James Wharton.
In an interview with Forces News,Wharton talked about the situation that arose because soldiers from another regiment did not like that he was gay.
“They were poking me in the chest and making me feel pretty uncomfortable,” Wharton said.
“I sat in my fish tank where Prince Harry was doing something and he noticed that I was clearly affected by something and asked me what the problem was.”
Wharton continued, “I told him there were a couple of soldiers outside who weren’t too happy about me being gay.”
He said Harry was “very hurt” that he had been picked up and had taken it upon himself to speak to the soldiers and make sure the anti-gay bullying did not happen again.
“He talked them out of it and they left me alone,” he said.
Wharton, who became the first openly gay man to appear on the cover Soldier magazine. said in 2009 that he would “always be grateful to Harry”.
In 2017, Prince Harry collected posthumously award in the name of his late mother, Princess Diana, for her pioneering work in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The following year, Harry and Elton John founded an international group MenStar Coalition.
MenStar is a conglomerate of groups working in the fight against AIDS, including the Children’s Investment Fund, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Gilead Sciences, Johnson & Johnson, the US government’s PEPFAR program, the Global Fund and Unitaid.
