Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan can be seen back together as Scott and Charlene for the first time in new images revealed from the latest episode of Neighbours.
Among the many stars returning for the end of the long-running Australian series, which will air for the final time at the end of July.
The singer shared a similar snap on her Instagram page with her 2.4 million followers, captioning it: “Now we’re back together” – a nod to the former couple’s real-life duet Especially For You.
Donovan posted a photo of the Ramsay Street road sign signed by him and his co-star, along with a shot of his script cover, writing: “So good to be back with this absolute legend @kylieminogue.”
Details of the latest storyline are being kept under wraps, so it’s not yet known how love-struck Scott and Charlene will return to Ramsay Street.
When it was confirmed in April that Minogue and Donovan, both 54, would reprise their roles from the late 1980s – when they married in one of the most famous weddings in soap history – the internet went into a frenzy of nostalgia.
Their wedding episode was watched by over two million Australian viewers when it first aired in 1987 and later attracted an audience of almost 20 million when it was shown in the UK in 1988.
Minogue previously spoke about her “emotional” return to the soapsaying: “I haven’t seen these people – some of them – in over 30 years.
“And, you know, life goes by and we’ve all been through different things. And just being face to face and saying, “Wow, this is part of our history. It was wonderful.”
She added: “I started acting a few years before that but my big break and I guess I became famous through Neighbors in 1986, so many moons ago.”
The soap opera, which first aired in Australia in 1985 and arrived in the UK the following year, will air its final series on July 29 after being axed earlier this year.
Channel 5 will air the penultimate episode at its usual times of 1.45pm and 6pm in the UK, with what is promised to be an “exciting and emotional” finale airing in a special double-bill slot at 9pm.
It will be part of Neighbors Night Out, which will also include a greatest hits music show, as well as Neighbors: What Happened Next?, which will focus on stars like Minogue and Donovan who have gone on to become famous after their time . in Erinsborough – including Margot Robbie, Guy Pearce and Delta Goodram.
The show’s executive producer, Jason Herbison, previously said that tears were shed after filming ended.
“We all knew this day was coming, but until we were here, in this moment when the last scene was shot, it was hard to express how we were all going to feel,” he said.
“Of course, it’s sad and tears, but we’re also very proud. Thirty-seven years is an incredible achievement and should be celebrated.
“We’ve also been incredibly touched by the response from our viewers around the world. For many people, Neighbors is more than a TV show. They see us as part of the family and we feel honored to be invited into their homes, and I know that the legacy of Neighbors will live on for many years to come.”
Neighbours: The Final airs at 9pm on Friday 29 July. I’m sobbing.
