President Joe Biden pledged that the United States would use its own force to defend itself Taiwan when China lashed out at the island in an explosive 60 Minutes interview on Sunday.
“Will American troops defend the island?” 60 Minutes reporter Scott Pelley asked the president after being pressed about the extent of his commitment to Taiwan.
“Yes, when there was actually an unprecedented attack,” Mr. Biden said.
“It doesn’t look like that UkraineTo be clear, sir,’ continued Pelley, ‘American forces, American men and women will defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion?’
“Yes,” Biden said.
