Former heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller has earned his second win since returning from a three-and-a-half-year drug ban.
“The Big Baby” dropped and stopped Derek Cardenas in four rounds after weighing his opponent nearly SIXTY pounds at the weigh-in.
However, Miller cut weight after his last appearance in the ring. Exactly one month before Cardenas won in June, the New York native weighed 341 pounds.
This time he was 328. Cardenas was 269.
Miller’s normal fighting weight is around 280 pounds, so the Salita Promotions star has a long way to go. However, he is on the right track by staying active.
In other news, Filipino Charlie Suarez will return to the ring on August 7th.
Suarez will defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asian belt against fellow Filipino Marco John Yap. The event is held at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque, Metro Manila.
The continental champion will make the first defense of the crown he won in March against Thomjune Mangubat via a 12-round TKO.
Suarez became an icon for his country and his city. He combines his work as a boxer with his performance in the national army.
He was promoted after winning the WBA Asian title.
This time he will face the experienced Yap who always goes to war. Despite the fact that recent results have not been with him, he always goes to exchange and manages to make it difficult for his opponents.
Suarez is undefeated in 11 fights with seven knockouts, while Yap has 30 wins and 16 losses.
Schwartz vs. Akhmatovich
Germans Tom Schwartz and Emir Akhmatovich will meet next Friday, July 29, at the World Boxing Association (WBA) continental heavyweight title in the main event to be held at the Bill Clinton Arena in Ferizaj, Kosovo.
The fight will be for a vacant title and both of them will be looking for a win to move up the rankings and keep them on the path to elite fights.
Schwartz enters this fight on a three-fight winning streak. The 28-year-old puncher has had a promising career, with his only loss coming against Tyson Fury.
Akhmatovich has two wins in a row and is 35 years old. He faced several top level opponents and only lost to Filip Hrgavič.
Schwartz has 27 wins, one loss and 19 knockouts. At the same time, Akhmatovich has 12 wins, one defeat and nine knockouts.
