The living wage is very high and whoever ends up as chancellor will have their hands full.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some simple tips and tricks to help you get through it, especially when the school summer holidays are upon us.

Every Friday, one of the members of our expert panel of personal finance journalists compiles five tips we think are worth considering that could help you save a little money or make money in the midst of skyrocketing inflation and skyrocketing bills.

This week it’s offering a £1 lunch menu, 2-4-1 tickets to your favorite theme parks and some retro summer activities that will take you back in time.

You can find two-for-one tickets to some of the UK’s biggest attractions, from Alton Towers, to York Dungeon and Shrek World, when you buy a box of Kelloggs cereal or individual snacks

1. 2-4-1 tickets for adults to major UK attractions

One of my favorite rides during the summer months is a packed theme park filled with sickening treats, sickening roller coasters, and water rides.

But I certainly wouldn’t go on a trip to Thorpe Park or Alton Towers without finding some sort of discount code.

Kelloggs is currently offering its seasonal promotion of 2-4-1 tickets for adults to a wide range of UK attractions from Legoland and Chessington World of Adventures, to Madame Tussauds and Blackpool Tower: perfect for children aged 12 and under.

If you want something to entertain your big kids, vouchers can also take you to The Dungeons, which can be found across the UK, including London, York, Edinburgh and Warwick.

Instead of paying £250 for a family of four at Alton Towers, you can drop the price down to £120.

You can currently find promo codes for single packs of Kellogg’s products worth between £1 and £3, including Cornflakes, Cocoa Pops, Nut Crisps and Rice Squares.

If you’re looking for a budget option, Nutrigrain and Squares single bars are included in the promotion and you can pick them up for less than £1 in most supermarkets.

2. Return to your favorite retro playground games

Barbecues are a great way to spend the summer days and I remember the old summer holidays.

You can bond with your kids while getting them more exercise and fresh air by introducing them to some of the retro playground games you may have enjoyed as a child.

Next time you're having a barbecue, host your own old-school sporting event to entertain the kids and allow for even more family bonding this summer vacation

Try livening up your BBQ with a summer sports day for adults vs kids and introduce them to different sporting events with items from around the house.

You can also make medals out of foil to warm up the competition and keep track of the results.

Deputy editor Lee Boyce says his little one’s favorite game at the moment is floor-to-bench. He scatters pillows around the garden and makes her use her imagination by pretending the grass is lava and he tries to make her beat time every time she walks around. She spends hours doing this and it costs nothing.

If you fancy a quiet evening why not show your kids some of your favorite board games – I like to find them in charity shops or on Facebook Marketplace for a few quid. They can also become a treasure trove of good toys.

3. Get 40% off a £1 Little Bird trial

I’m a fan subscriptions that give you discounts. A family subscription to Little Bird could be the key to keeping your costs down this summer.

Little Bird’s Family Pass offers discounts on a variety of daily activities, from 40 percent off movie tickets, 50 percent off rides and even free kids.

You can get a membership for £35 and it’s good for the whole year, but they also offer a 30-day trial for just £1 – the summer holidays are the perfect time to try it out and see if the discounts work for you and you can cancel if it is not.

You can also get some great savings on summer travel, with £50 off Haven holidays or up to 60 per cent off Eurocamp trips.

4. Kids eat for less than £1

If you fancy a date but not an expensive babysitter, check out the many baby discounts at local pubs and restaurants.

The Sizzling Pubs are offering a £1 kids meal with every adult meal every Monday to Friday during the summer holidays, while Bella Italia is offering a £1 kids meal every Monday to Thursday from 4pm to 6pm.

If breakfast is more your thing, why not check out the local pubs Beefeater, Brewers Fayre, Cookhouse and Hungry Horse.

Individual chains currently offer two free kids’ breakfasts with every adult meal purchased, while Hungry Horse offers a free breakfast with every adult meal.

Pubs and cafes are offering huge discounts on children's meals this summer, with some offering free breakfasts or £1 pub meals throughout the school holidays.

If you need to send the kids shopping, you can also use the various supermarket cafes.

Asda and Morrisons are currently offering kids meals for £1 in their cafes, which could free you up to finish your grocery shop while your kids fill their tummies.

Ikea is also offering two hot children’s meals, a jelly, a fruit and a drink for £5 all festive season… if you can hold it!

5. Superfast broadband for £13.45 a month

Vodafone has one of the best superfast broadband deals we’ve seen at the moment.

You can get download speeds of up to 38 Mbps with a 24-month contract with Superfast 1* from Vodafone plan which is available for £22 per month.

And next week, Vodafone is increasing the promotional voucher to £205, which can be redeemed at Tesco, Sainsbury’s or M&S or online from Amazon.

With this voucher, he cuts the total cost by almost 40 per cent, or the equivalent of £13.45 a month for two years.

The deal ends on July 15, so customers will need to act fast to take advantage.
