A North East software developer has joined forces with an education technology firm to boost cyber security in schools.
Sapere Software, based in Stockton, partnered with Middlesbrough Secure Schools, which provides cyber security solutions to the education sector, to successfully build the app.
Secure Schools was set up in 2018 by cyber security expert Paul Alberry and former multi-academy trust chief executive Jill Foster, who believe that many schools across the UK and academic trusts are under-investing in cyber security.

They soon developed a prototype program to improve cyber resilience in the education sector and received funding from the Tees Valley Business Compass and NCSC’s Cyber Accelerator programme.
The team was then able to create software that allows schools to test and understand their cyber resilience, including the ability to simulate real cyber attacks.
Paul Drake, Sapere’s commercial director, said it was a “fantastic program to work with”.
He added: “Working with Sapere meant that Secure Schools had access to a full development team with over 15 years of experience in business design and software solutions development.
“The cost of doing it domestically with the same level of expertise would be prohibitive for a start-up business.”
Paul Alberry, co-founder and CEO of Secure Schools, said the app has enabled them to serve “hundreds of schools across the UK”.
