Heinz products will return to Tesco shelves after a deal is struck on the price range | Business news

The full range of Heinz products will return to Tesco shelves after the companies reached an agreement to resolve a pricing dispute.

The US food maker suspended shipments of its products in a row, raising questions about who should bear the biggest costs in the current economic climate – manufacturers, retailers or consumers.

Among the products affected are baked beans, ketchup and tomato soup.

Heinz’s attempt to offset rising costs by raising prices has put him at odds with Tesco, which has vowed to try to keep prices low for consumers.

Tesco said it “will not pass on unwarranted price increases to our customers”.

In a joint statement, the companies said: “Tesco and Heinz are delighted to have reached an agreement which will see the full range of Heinz products return to Tesco shelves and online, continuing to offer our customers great value for the nationally loved Heinz range.

“Trucks full of Heinz products, including Heinz Tomato Ketchup and Heinz Beanz, will soon be on the road and Tesco colleagues will be working hard to ensure the shelves are stocked in the coming days.

“With the British summer finally here, Tesco shoppers will be able to stock up on everything they need for the perfect summer salad or barbecue, including the Heinz varieties they know and love. How wonderful to be together again.’

UK inflation hit a new 40-year high of 9.1% in May and is forecast to reach 11% in the autumn.
