Shreyas and Suriyakumar added 119 runs for the fourth wicket with the former scoring only 28.
Suryakumar Yadav brought up his maiden international century and cricket fans can’t help but praise the Indian. The occasion was the third T20I between India and England, and the venue was Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Chasing a mammoth 216 in the dead rubber, Yadav came in to bat at number four as India reeled at 13/2. The required run rate kept increasing and England were firmly in control of the team.
Little did they know, however, that Suriyakumar was going to put on a batting exhibition. The 31-year-old went after the players from the start and scored points all over the park. While Shreyas Iyer, the batsman at the other end, struggled to get going, Suriyakumar scored runs for fun, keeping up the required run rate.
Suryakumar Yadav India’s fifth T20I century
In particular, Shreyas and Suryakumar added 119 runs for the fourth wicket with the former scoring only 28. This shows how dominant the Mumbai Indians batsman was. Meanwhile, Suryakumar reached the 48-ball milestone, joining Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda in the elite list of Indian batsmen from T20Is.
At the stage of the competition, the game was simply dead as India had already clinched the series by winning the first two games. With nothing much on the line, the Men in Blue made four changes to their squad to test the strength of the reserves. These changes have provided a welcome respite for England’s batsmen, who have struggled in the first two games.
On this occasion, they put up a brilliant show and posted 215/7 in their allotted 20 overs. While David Malan top-scored for the hosts with 77 runs, Liam Livingston remained unbeaten on a quick-fire 42. Chasing a big total, India lost their top three cheaply and hardly looked out of place. Fortunately for them, Suryakumar Yadav had other plans as India remained in the hunt till the very end.
Meanwhile, here’s how Twitter reacted to Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliance:
