Founded back in 1985, Dolce & Gabbana have always had a knack for attracting some of the biggest stars and celebrities to its fashion shows.

And over the weekend the Italian luxury fashion house didn’t disappoint once again for its 10 year anniversary celebration of Alta Moda in front of the Cathedral of Syracuse in Siracusa, Sicily.

Namesakes Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were all in their glory alongside the likes of such high-profile people as Mariah Carey, Sharon Stone, Helen Mirren, Drew Barrymore, Lupita Nyong’o, Ciara and husband Russell Wilson, Casey Affleck, Kris Jenner, Christian Bale, Monica Belluci, Heidi Klum and Vanessa Bryant.

Alta Moda was launched in 2012, inspired by Giovanni Battista Giorgini’s efforts to promote Italian fashion and brands abroad Made in Italy.

Over the years, the concept behind the project’s idea of couture was to pay a tribute to the Italian domestic artisanship in all its expressions and to its tailoring tradition.

Since its first runway show, Dolce & Gabbana has presented new collections discovering renowned Italian landmarks like the Cathedral of Syracuse that was used for Saturday’s anniversary show.

Gold and white appeared to be one of the featured colors worn by the many different celebrities on hand for the event.

‘Siracusa is a special place for us,’ Gabbana explained before the show, as reported by the National News, adding, ‘It is in the most southern part of Sicily, in front of Africa. I love the feeling, I love the mood, I love the stones, the colors, the people.’

To help set up the mood, ahead of the Alta Moda presentation, there was a re-enactment of the classic Italian opera Cavalleria rusticana from the late 1800s by Pietro Mascagni that was performed on a catwalk set up in front of the famed cathedral.

The idea was to create an experience that was best representative of the Dolce & Gabba DNA.

The new collection has been described as heartfelt love letter to the Sicilian woman, which has been part of the brand inspiration.

This time around there was a move away from its signature prints and vibrant colors, and replaced almost entirely with black pieces.

‘If you ask someone, in their imagination, what the Sicilian woman wears, it is black,’ said Gabbana.

In all, the new collection consists of 106, that were represented by the many models who first appeared at the top of a set of step in front of the cathedral.
