BUENOS AIRES, July 9 (Xinhua) — Former Manchester United defender Marcos Roja’s first-half strike failed to prevent Boca Juniors from suffering a third straight defeat in Argentina’s Premier Division on Saturday.
Roja put Boca ahead in their visit to San Lorenzo with a 28th-minute header from Sebastian Villa’s cross.
But the hosts equalized in the 38th minute thanks to Agustin Guillaume’s strike and Adam Barreiro put San Lorenzo ahead just before the hour mark with a close-range goal.
Barreiro missed a chance to extend the lead when he kicked the penalty after Roja brought down Malcolm Brady.
The result leaves Boca in 13th place in the 28-team table with nine points from seven matches, while San Lorenzo is eighth with 10 points.
In Saturday’s other Premier Division matches, Union Santa Fe beat Banfield 3-2, while Arsenal Sarandi won 1-0 at Patronato.
