A police officer is to stand trial after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman.

Michael Sinden, 34, was charged with sexual assault by trespassing in Eastbourne on March 10, 2022.

Sinden, a Sussex Police inspector, was suspended after being charged with the offence.

The incident is said to have taken place while Sinden was off duty. The woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted was known to him.

Sinden will appear in the Brighton Justice of the Peace on Wednesday, January 25.

The matter was referred to the Independent Policing Authority and a local investigation was recommended.
